I've been rereading the Ridvan 2010 letter. What strikes me is the seeming contradiction betwen this current phase of my life and the present stage of the Five Year Plan. During the past year I have lived in three different states, eahc time participating in core activities but without the consistency or vigor taht I would expect of myself in a better-established lifestyle. Yet in this plan activities are focused more on creating an intense nucleus of activity in one locality than on hopping around doing a variety of tiny core activities. I feel even more out of sync in this last year when, with the goal number of IPGs established, we are meant to be strengthening and improving our former efforts, yet here I am once again starting from scratch!
I have decided to view my disconnected life as an extra opportunity to learn. While I may never be a superb devotional meeting host, Ruhi book tutor or children's class teacher, I will certainly develop excellent skills in pushing through the inertia of limited or overly busy human resources to support me in to get a few modest activities started in small clusters like IL-18 and MO-01, God willing. Baha'u'llah help St. Louis!
A little bit about today. I have gotten invovled with a group of students at my school who teach Saturday morning nutrition classes in the community. Of course I volunteered myself instantly to help with the kids! In fact, I was so hungry to teach children's class again that I prepared to do the activity in Ruhi-style format and had a ball doing vegetable-themed coloring, singing and story-telling with the three-year-old cutie who showed up. I hope there are more next weekend. We are going to have a lot of fun. =)
Another awesome thing that happened today. The root of the awesomeness is actually in the past. As I mentioned in a previous devotional post, a girl from my class came to the devotional at my home, which was super exciting. Well, Friday night she came to Pray and Praise at the home of S&N and had a great time. Apparently she has been telling other people about it these events, because someone at a school barbecue this afternoon asked if she could come to one of the Sunday night devotionals sometime, and I told her she could come with me to teatoosk's place tomorrow. What's so cool about this, is that this girl is actually the second to have expressed interest or curiosity. Core activities may actually catch on with a select few of my classmates. This is a totally new experience for me. Yay, teaching!
Currently I'm at a coffee shop with teatosk "studying." She actually is studying nicely but I'm blogging after having constructed a notification list for our devotional. Since we rotate the location each week and don't yet do it consistently, I am trying to make a systematic way to notify people so we don't have everyone missing meetings or showing up at the wrong place. We'll see if it works. If nothing else it satisfies my spreadsheet compulsion.
Finally, a vegetable coloring sheet image as a token of my awesome and 100% nonproductive day.
